So I Married a Nerd

In case you haven't picked up on it by now, Mark is the nerd in the "A Nerd and A Free Spirit". Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I just thought I'd share a little example of the nerdiness with which I live.

What do you, or your husbands/friends/boyfriends/etc. do when they are on the computer?

Things like Facebook, check out music, blog (woo!), play games, read about sports, email, etc, right?

Well, if you were to peek over Mark's shoulder, like I did last night, this is what you would see:

So it's a map of Africa - no big deal, right?

Well, notice how there aren't names of the individual countries on the continent. So, for daily entertainment, Mark sits down at the computer, on this website called "Sporcle" (www.sporcle.com) and plays games like this, where he has a certain amount of time to type in all the names of the countries correctly. It's a website full of trivia games.

There are games about geography, games about sports, games about music, actors, tv shows, and just about anything you can imagine. Some of them are cool. But, really? A map of Africa?

Mark was all-state in quiz bowl in high school. Trivia is his middle name.

In case you still don't get the depth of his commitment, he actually said this to me last night:

"I almost have all the countries in the world memorized!"

Cool, sweetie. That's so awesome. Isn't that everyone's dream?

So, in case there was a question over who the nerd is, I hope it's settled. (-:

  1. Popping over from SITS! This is too hilarious. I consider myself pretty nerdy and am definitely a trivia girl, but your hubby has me beat hands down. Happy Friday!

  3. Well our husbands would get along great then! My husband teaches world geopgraphy to Middle School students, is obsessed with sports stats and has so much useless information in his head-it's ridiculous! The nice thing is that he can strike up a conversation with anyone. =)

  4. This is awesome. I am going to have to tell my husband about it because it is just the type of thing he would be into. My husband is in a band (actually, 2 bands) and he told me that all musicians are big geeks. He says that most of them start playing music to cover up their nerd-dom.

Found you on SITS and now following!

  5. Well, I think it's wonderful! I'm so happy Mark is part of our family. We need people like Mark, who have just raw knowledge. I mean what would happened if our world as we know it was to come to an end? And there weren't any information sources available.. no computers, books, ect... Well we'd have Mark! That is very comforting to me. Love you both!

  8. Yeah, my husband married a nerd too. Somehow I got sucked into a trivia game yesterday about King Authur and his nights. I was actually rather ticked that I missed three out of fifteen questions. And shocked that I knew the rest. I think I need to watch more tv.....

  12. That's fantastic, I so have to check out that site. I'd be the computer, tech, and random knowledge nerd married to the videogame, engineer's son, gotta measure it nerd. (though we tend to use the term geek rather than nerd, don't know why.) Stopping by from SITS!
