Mr. Fix It

So, we are back from our cruise, and one of the first things we did when we got back was started the laundry. Exciting, I know.

But a problem immediately arose.

You see, when I moved into this apartment two years ago, I decided to buy a used washer and dryer. I basically just wanted a set that worked. The lady assured me they worked great. So I paid $150, and got a new (not-so-gently-used pair of washer and dryer). She was right in that they work great, except that the timer doesn't work on the dryer. Which really, is a relatively big problem. Anyway, not the point.

So, the newest problem in our million year old washer/dryer set can be seen in the above photo. Mark was starting the washer the other day and handle thing popped off. It broke off into TWO PIECES. Not. good.

Yeah - that's supposed to be:
1. on the washer, and
2. not in two pieces.

Now, I love my husband more than anything. He's fabulous. I could go on and on about his wonderful qualities, that include an amazing servant's heart, the most sacrificial man in the world, and a love for the Lord that is evident every day in multiple ways. But, somehow, when God was distributing the whole "mechanical abilities" portion of Mark, he most have skipped him. The guy's just not mechanical.

So when he saw the washing machine and pulled out my pink tool kit, I HAD to get a photo (he wasn't thrilled, but it's for a good cause!)

I suggested we get some pliers and see if we can manually turn it, since the knob is dead at this point.

And there he is, in action, folks. Cross your fingers! I do NOT want to have to use the laundry room at the apartment complex. And who has a million dollars in quarters, anyway?!

Look! WATER!!!!

YES!!!!! He did it! Maybe he is mechanical after all!!!!!!

So what if we have to use pliers to get our washer started? We're saving for a house! (-:

YAY!!!!!! If your washing machine is broken, just call my husband. He can fix it. (-:

Last chance to enter the drawing - we will draw tomorrow - comment on the giveaway post to be entered!

  2. I love this! We have a similar situation with our dryer. We also use pliers to start the cycle! Nice to see we aren't the only ones that have to get creative to do laundry! Hope all is well!

  3. Too bad we don't live closer--Granddaddy is good at fixing washers. Our last one was a bazillion years old before we finally gave in and got a new one. He even had it rigged where it would keep running when the lid was open. (I like to make sure everything's going okay after it starts washing.) I tried to get him to fix our new one like that, but he said it would void the warranty. :(
